Priority and Prolific Offenders

Working with offenders to try and prevent future offending is a crucial part of any crime reduction strategy.  We know that preventing crime is very cost effective, particularly with priority and prolific offenders.  Studies show that approximately 10% of the active offender population are responsible for half of all crime and that a very small proportion of offenders (0.5%) are responsible for one in tem offences.  Furthermore, the Home Office estimates that 5% of young people are responsible for over half of youth crime.

It is through a joined up, coordinated approach by agencies around enforcement and prevention, in relation to these target groups that we can achieve the biggest impact for the community.
