A man has been jailed for a serious assault in Gosport.
On 17 May 2022 the victim, a man in his 20s, was with a friend outside an address in St Johns Square at around 5am when he was approached by Aiden West and Stanley Lambie who had come from inside the address.
Lambie, now aged 19 and 23-year-old West proceeded to assault the victim by repeatedly punching and kicking him to the head and face.
CCTV enquiries determined that Lambie removed some items from the victim’s pockets while West continued the assault.
The defendants then left the area, before returning and pushing the victim away from the address.
The pair then further assaulted the victim as he retreated, and West stamped on his head and chest.
Police attended the scene and found the victim still on the floor, having apparently lost consciousness and suffering a broken nose, knocked out tooth, and various cuts and bruises during the attack.
Following enquiries, Lambie and West were subsequently arrested and charged with offences.
At a Portsmouth Crown Court hearing on 23 June last year West, of Parham Road in Gosport, admitted attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, while Lambie, of Gladstone Road in Gosport, admitted theft and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on 13 July.
Appearing at the same court again on Friday 13 January, West was sentenced to two years in prison.
Lambie will be sentenced on 12 May.
Detective Sergeant Gary Tomlinson said: “This was a sustained attack which saw both defendants inflict violence on another man, leaving him with serious injuries. Even as the victim retreated, he did not retaliate and was subjected to further brutal assaults.
“It is the duty of the police to support victims and fully investigate violent offences. We have demonstrated that here, resulting in these West being sent to prison as a consequence of his actions’.
