Arrests made and charges brought as officers investigate Gosport burglary series

Officers have made a number of arrests and charged two people as part of an investigation into a burglary series in Gosport.

Joshua Stedman, aged 31 and of no fixed abode, was arrested this weekend and charged with the following:

  • Burglary at Hardway Sailing Club on 18 August
  • Burglary on Beauchamp Avenue, Gosport, on 31 August
  • 4 counts of fraud by false representation
  • Burglary at an address in Northway, Gosport on 3 September where items including credit cards, car keys and an Ipad were stolen.
  • Shoplifting – relating to £174 worth of alcohol stolen from ASDA in Speedfields Park, Fareham on 30 August.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today (5 September).

Craig James, aged 28, of Pine Road in Bournemouth, has been charged with:

  • Burglary on Beauchamp Avenue, Gosport, on 31 August
  • 2 counts of fraud by false representation

In addition, a 48-year-old woman from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and was released from custody but remains under investigation.

A 48-year-old man from Fareham was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and a burglary at Curlew Walk in Gosport on 1 September. He has been bailed with conditions until 2 October.

Finally, a 37-year-old man was arrested and recalled to prison. He was also arrested on suspicion of a burglary on James Close in Gosport on 3 September, and remains under investigation in relation to this.

Officers continue to make enquiries into these burglaries and others on Harris Road and The Curve in Gosport, and Spencer Drive in Lee-on-the-Solent, which took place between 30 August and 3 September.
